Jacqueline worked in financial accounts in the cash office at Waitrose, where she dealt with weekly cash wages for the lorry drivers, all petty cash and all the gift vouchers for the Waitrose network. The job required an enormous level of coordination and administrative capability which were not really appreciated while she was there.

She worked alone in a strongroom with a small screen serving window. This suited her fine as she enjoyed her own company and was able to read books without interruption for extended periods of the day.

When we started qualifying for the bank incentive trips through my job, her managers would not provide her with time off when required. this led to her handing in her notice and subsequently four full time staff having to do her job.

On her final day she was approached by the manager of stock accounts Len Borley who said he could create a job for her in his office which she gratefully accepted. Jacqueline always said Len was the best manager she had ever had, who treated everybody with respect even those who didn't necessarily earn it. Her favourite Len saying was "if you treat people like humans maybe they won't behave like animals".

On her first day in her new job she met Jeremy Tree the young man who's job she had effectively taken. He had gone home on Friday with a job and came in on Monday without one. He quickly became one of Jacqueline's firmest friends and he effectively became Jacqueline's unofficial carer whilst at work. He would even come and stay with us from time to time after Jacqueline had retired.

Words cannot express my gratitude to these men for the care they showed Jacqueline over some difficult years.

Waitrose was where Jacqueline made most of her longest and strongest friendships including, Gay Collins & Roy Miles, Heather & Steve Milledge, Vivian & Derek Dyson and Sue & Jeff Salathiel who she invited to some of our most important family celebrations.

By 2006 jacquelines health was starting to cause her major problems leading to having to take long period of time off work this eventually led to her early retirement in 2008.
